Who’d have thought that in a country like Australia, deficiency in vitamin D, the “sunshine” vitamin, could possibly be an issue? But, according to Choice, up to 49% of us may just not be getting enough.
It’s good stuff. You may already know vitamin D is critical for healthy bones. But, research is starting to show this awesome little guy does so much more. Deficiency has been linked to conditions like some cancers, depression, immune disorders, diabetes….....basically it’s like oxygen. You just need it. But we’re spending more time in doors & heeding sun protection advice, so we just don’t get enough sun.
Some foods contain vitamin D, but only in miniscule amounts. Your best bet for your daily allowance is to get some pure sunlight straight on your skin. Sitting in a sunny room or in your car won’t cut it. You need to be outside, breathing in the fresh air, just soaking up the rays on as much of your bare skin as possible – no sunscreen (or other creams for that matter). But not too much though – have a look at this little guide. We’re not saying ditch sound sun protection advice. Just don’t forget the importance of getting some pure sunshine. Not just good for your health, but good for the soul.
