Anne completed her midwifery education in the UK where she worked as a midwife in the community prior to relocating to New Zealand with her family. In New Zealand, her belief in women and their ability to birth their baby’s with support from a midwife they know and trust became fundamental to her practice. Working in partnership with women is a privilege, with lifelong friendships and wonderful memories.

Since 2000 she has worked in Queensland across a number of different health services, implementing, promoting continuity of care and midwifery. Her midwifery roles have included management and higher levels, continually striving for change and reform in maternity services in Australia.

Wise words from a midwife, from one that has been with many women, throughout their childbirth journey

Wise Words from a Midwife
  • Access a model of care that provides a midwife or a group of midwives that will care deeply for you and your baby throughout the childbirth journey. Research around the world has shown continuity of care by a known midwife gives childrearing women an overall positive experience in their transition to motherhood.
  • Become educated, informed and therefore, empowered, but choose your sources wisely, and just one or two (teachers, books or websites). Too much information is overwhelming, and can become confusing, taking you away from your intuition as to what ‘feels right’.
  • Be very truthful and ask yourself; what are my needs, what are my fears, what are my hopes and dreams, and find creative ways to express this.
  • Be Loved, oh for the flow of Oxytocin be loved. Allow the love to flow to you as well as from you. You are constantly giving to your baby, during pregnancy, birth and postnatally, so please, receive the love from those around you.

  • Please be gentle with yourself not embarrassed or in judgement of your growing body, birth story or your post-natal experience.
  • It’s not your birth, yes you birth yourself into motherhood but it is your baby’s birth into this world. The best way you can facilitate your baby’s journey in, is to follow some or all of the above steps.
